21世紀の元旦はいい日であった。ジャンプ週間のガルミッシュ(GER)で今期初の勝利を挙げたのである。葛西快調、減量作戦に成功とも報じられたのだが、ジャンプ週間のあとは３回の４位
と世界選手権団体も２つの有り難くない４位に終った。
今季ワールドカップはフライングを除く総合の３位。シーズンを通してさほど悪い成績ではなかったはずだが、「全く不本意な悪いシーズンに終った」と、ニガニガしい表情で今季を振り返った。
