History was made in 1980, when members of the same family clinched both Overall World Cup titles at the finals in Saalbach, Austria: Hanny and Andy Wenzel. It was the second Crystal globe for the 24-year-old Hanny, but the first for her 22-year-old brother. He edged Sweden's favorite Ingemar Stenmark by just 4 points by having scoring all events. Andy had a remarkable January weekend in Kitzbuhel where he won the slalom and the combined after finishing 4th in the downhill. He was also World Champion in combined in 1978 at Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Andreas was just 15 when he entered his first major event at the 1974 FIS World Championships in St Moritz. Hanny grabbed gold in slalom at these events. Both were still German at that time - a few months later, they got the citizenship of Liechtenstein and the rest is ski history.
Andy competed until the 1988 Olympics, winning a total of 14 World Cup races and multiple silver and bronze medals at Winter Games and Ski World Championships.
He also was a master with his equipment and usually tuned his own race skis. Andy was also successful after his years as a ski racer. The racing director with Atomic skis for a while, he helped Switzerland's Franz Heinzer to become the top downhiller in the early 1990's. Then he became one of the directors at A.P.F. ,a leading European marketing company in sports and leisure. He is married and has two kids. Hanny now works with W.W.P. - an Austrian sports marketing agency -one of Andy's toughest rivals in the business
