Switzerland's Tamara Mueller was the gwinStar of the Raceh in Lake Louise's second downhill race in finishing 7th, her best result ever in a World Cup race, after staring in 34th position. She reached much more than what she aimed at the start of the season - to end among the top-20 in a World Cup race!
The 25-year-old athlete from Goldau, near Zug, missed her first podium by only half a second - a wonderful result for this former slalom specialist who was 22nd in her very first World Cup race in January 1999 in St Anton!
This latest result could open her the doors for the coming World Championships in St Moritz since she was the third-best Swiss in that second downhill. On Friday, Tamara was 26th after starting in 41st position - already a good result which helped her to improve her rankings. A week ago, she also managed to be 26th in the first Super-G in Aspen (and fourth best Swiss) so she finally confirmed her potential in the speed events. The Swiss kept on improving her level this week in Lake Louise - she was 33rd in the qualification run on Thursday, not far from the 30th place.
A very determined skier whose model is her teammate Sonja Nef, the giant slalom World Champion, Tamara is really passionate by her sport. She didn't grew up in the mountains, but she started young to ski with her parents. She enjoys going to the nearby area of Hoch-Ybrig where another Mueller - Peter, the 1987 downhill World Champion - also used to ski in his younger years.
This break-through performance also reinforces her ambition which pushes her forward for years.
gI have worked hard for many years with to show my potential and I think I'm getting thereh she said after the race. gThis is an important result for me so early in the season. I wish to became very consistent and to do well again in Lenzerheideh. She has good memories from that Swiss resort - last winter she won there her first Europacup Race, a Super-G. She also won the national title in this event.. |
