Cortina d'Ampezzo (ITA), January December 16th - 2003 - America's Libby Ludlow skied again in the top-15 in a downhill training run in Cortina d'Ampezzo where she tries hard to qualify for the coming World Championships in St Moritz. It's the second time that the US skier achieved such a performance. She already was the gwinStar of the Raceh in Lake Louise .

The 21-year-old Ludlow, from Bellevue, near Seattle , Wa., again clocked the eleventh fastest time in a final practice run as she did last December in Canada where she started in 62nd position. She ended in 17th and 26th places in the downhills there - not as good as she was hoping. She often competed in Lake Louise and she felt ready for much more! In Cortina d'Ampezzo, she wore bib 51 and she is again aiming for a great weekend in Italy's gClassich. gI need a top-15 place to qualify for St Moritzh explained the young American who is also a newcomer on the World Cup tour after reaching some good results in Continental Cups competitions.
A very determined skier who is still member of the US gCh team following a series of bad knee-injuries, Libby consistently scored points during this season in downhill and Super-G. She aims to enter the top-30 in the start-list rankings before the end of the season.
gIt's too bad that some speed races had to be cancelled this month, I was fighting hard to qualify for St Moritz. It's quite tough because our team is very strong now in downhillh. In fact, her teammate Kirsten Clark is one of the top contenders in downhill this winter.
Youngest daughter of an attorney-at-law (father) and an architecture (mother), Libby skies since she walks, mostly in Crystal Mountain, where the World Cup Tour stopped by in 1972 after the Sapporo Olympics. During the off-season, she attends the prestigious Dartmouth College in New Hampshire where she may study engineering in future.
Last summer, she trained with the gAh Team in Portillo, Chile, which helped her to improve her level and reinforce her confidence. She enjoyed the stay in the Andes resort where the 1966 World Championships took place. gWe work well together, the US downhill team is really strong and motivatedh she explains. She scored her first points in Aspen where she was 29th!
Libby is the second skier after Switzerland's Tamara Mueller to became the gwinStar of the Raceh this season. Yet her goal is the enter the top-15 also in racing, not only in training.
