A former Super-G specialist in the mid 1990's, Norway's Andrine Flemmen has finally found her rhythm and more success on the World Cup tour. Flemmen is now one of the best women's GS racers on the tour, scoring points in all World Cup races during the 1998/99 season. This consistency came after her surprising GS win at Soelden, Austria, defeating superstar Alexandra Meissnitzer. It was also her first win in a technical event. Andrine reached the podium four more times in GS to finish 3rd in the World Cup standings. She was also 2nd behind Alexandra in the Vail World championship GS, becoming the first Norwegian racer to win a medal in that event at the Worlds. The 1996 Europacup GS champion settled for 10th place both at the Sestriere World meet in 1997 and the Nagano Olympics. Flemmen was hoping for much better in Japan after promising results right before the February, 1998 Games. She clocked the fastest time in the first run at Bormio before slipping down to 4th place.
A cross country skier in her younger years, Andrine Flemmen only started alpine skiing at age 7. Her father runs a gas station near Molde, located on Norway's west coast. A very dynamic person, she likes all kinds of sports activities such as squash, snowboarding and aerobics.
