Sestriere (ITA), December 16h - 2002 - It's a wonderful achievement that France's Kevin Page celebrated this night in Sestriere where he became the gwinStar of the Raceh in the men's KO-slalom in finishing 9th , his best result ever in a World Cup race, after staring in 51st position .

Kevin can be quite proud of himself. The 27-year-old champion from nearby Serre-Chevalier is no longer part of the French Ski Team and he has to pay all his training expenses by himself with the help of his father Eric, a noted ski-photographer who works for years on the World Cup tour .
Last week, Kevin was lucky enough to finish 4th in a Europa-Cup KO-slalom in Italy's Oberregen, what qualified him for this KO-slalom. He was able to make the best out of this selection and he qualified for the final run along his team-mate Jean-Pierre Vidal, the 2002 Olympic Champion .
Then he took a maximum of risks as he tried to reach his first World Cup podium but he skied out.Yet he has no regret - it was a good day for him as he received a nice check from the Sestriere Organizing Committee as well as the 50gr gold presented to the gwinStar of the Raceh in each competition.
gThis is a wonderful day and I hope that I'll be able to remain on the circuit for the coming slalomsh said the French veteran after the race. gIt's funny because I haven't score a single point in the World Cup since qualifying here for the last time in 1998. Apparently this hill brings me luckh.
gIn the first run, I achieved a strong race to qualify then I took it easier. I was lucky that my next rivals including the great Kjetil Aamodt were not in their best days. Once I was in the Final I had no other choice than to ski as fast as possible because an eventual podium would have meant a lot for me and my staff. Then I burst out but that's part of the game. I was sure to remain among the top-10. This will help me to dramatically improve my position in the world rankings. Maybe I will be considered with more attention by the French Federation. I trained for years with my personal staff along Richard Gravier. We have a strong slalom team but I have nothing to lose so I will take my chance if I get another one soonh.
