Peter Fill became the “winStar of the Race” in Val d'Isere in finishing
6th in the men's giant slalom, his best result ever in a World Cup race,
after staring in 57th position .
The 20-year-old skier from the northern part of Italy who scored his very
first top-10 finish in that demanding race run by difficult weather conditions
is considered for many years as one of the most talented young skiers in
the “Squadra Azzurra”. Last season, he won gold in Super-G at the Juniors
Worlds which qualified him in the Italian World Cup team. He already scored
some points last winter at the Finals as he came in 12th in Altenmarkt
during the Finals. In Val d'Isere he was smart enough to make the best
of the course and weather conditions which improved at the end of the first
run. The Italian qualified in clocking the 18th best time. “I saw that
the visibility was better for us and I decided to have a very aggressive
run to try to qualify. I did much better than I thought and I was really
excited. My strong performance in the first run gave me great momentum
and I took again all risks in the second run. I wanted to go for it. I
felt it could be a great opportunity to show my potential. I’m really
pleased to win this prize and get on the winners' podium. I hope to return
there soon”.
Fill, member of the Carabinieri Sports Group, aims to become one of the
best allrounder in his team within a few years. He feels comfortable in
all events - from downhill to slalom - and he considers his future with
great confidence. “It will take some time but I believe in my potential”
he said. “I really enjoy to compete in all events though it's not easy.
I'm ready to work hard to reach the summit in our sport. My dream is to
fight once for the Overall World Cup title. This result will create great
excitement at home and I guess that hundredths of my fans will show up
next week in Alta Badia for the coming giant slalom. It will be a great
moment for me”. |
