Kjetil Andre Aamodt reached another remarkable summit in his career during the 1999/ 2000 winter, proving again that he is the best all-around ski racer on the World Cup tour in recent years. With his slalom win at Wengen and his triumph in the slalom World Cup, the Norwegian achieved more than a dream. In the Swiss race , Kjetil became the only fourth skier in the World Cup history to have won in all five alpine specialities. The other members of this exclusive club are Switzerland Pirmin Zurbriggen, Marc Girardelli from Luxembourg and Gunther Mader from Austria. Before the creation of the Super-G in the early 1990's, France's Jean Claude Killy, his teammate Henri Duvillard and Reinhart Tritscher scored wins in the three "classic" events. The Norwegian was quite proud to join this group.

Thanks to several other top-3 finishes in slalom, Aamodt clinched his fourth Crystal cups at Bormio. In 1993, he captured the GS and Super-G globes and the Overall Cup in 1994. He has won a total of 18 World Cup events since 1992.

The skier from Oslo had to wait three years to win again a real race after several successes in combined. He accumulated a series of impressive results in all specialties throughout the winter, especially in the technical races. I fact he scored points in all races except four. Aamodt was once more in the hunt for his second overall title until the last week prior to the Finals, but Hermann Maier was just too strong. It's the fourth time since 1993 that Kjetil has to be content with this 2nd place. In March 1999 his pal, Lasse Kjus edged him out the last race at Sierra Nevada.

Kjetil is the only other skier with Lasse Kjus to have conquered medals in all five alpine events. He won gold in Super-G in 1992, in slalom, in giant slalom in 1993 and in combined in 1997 and 1999. Aamodt, Kjus and Girardelli captured a total of 13 medals in their career. Aamodt conquered medals in all major events from 1991 to 1999 except at the 1998 Nagano Olympics.

He was only 22 years old when he won the Overall World Cup title after clinching three titles at Olympics and World Championships. He struggled the next season trying to handle the new found stardom combined with a some knee injuries. Now a veteran with a great sense of humour, Aamodt says his focus for the future seasons is for another title - in downhill, the last one missing. In 1999, he was 3rd at Beaver Creek behind Maier and Kjus. But the fire also burns strong to capture a second overall Crystal globe. He will fight until 2002 to reach this goal.

He lives in Monte Carlo next to Hans Petter Burras and enjoys the smooth weather conditions there. His girl friend Stine, a former five-time Norwegian rhythmic gymnast, often travels with him. Not so more his father Finn, his first trainer, who works now at the Olympic training centre outside of Oslo. He is also a TV commentator during the season and takes care of Kjetil's Website during the season
